How is demand for ivory affecting Africa's elephants?

The Impact of Ivory Demand on Africa's Elephants

The growing demand for ivory is greatly affecting Africa's elephants. People who are in the ivory selling/trading business go through great lengths to try and get ivory. Africa has tried many efforts to try and protect the elephants from poachers (people illegally hunting for their ivory tusks). However, some of these efforts go unnoticed.

Efforts to Protect Elephants

In response to the increased threat of poaching, people have set up sanctuaries to help protect the elephants. These sanctuaries serve as safe havens for these majestic creatures and work towards safeguarding them from poachers.

Increase in Elephant Deaths

When poachers get ivory from an elephant, they usually kill the elephant in the process because it is often easier than trying to extract the tusks while the animal is alive. Due to the relentless killing of elephants for their ivory, certain types of elephants are now endangered. The population of these magnificent animals is at risk due to the high demand for ivory.

How are efforts being made to protect Africa's elephants from poachers?

Efforts to protect Africa's elephants from poachers include setting up sanctuaries and implementing stricter anti-poaching measures. These sanctuaries serve as safe spaces for elephants and aim to minimize human-wildlife conflict. Additionally, authorities are working to enhance surveillance and enforcement to deter poachers and ensure the safety of these endangered animals.
